The seeds for urbnri were first sewn in 2001 when Kev Tait - then just 19 years old - was sentenced to a term in H M Prison Greenock for shooting a rival drug dealer in his home town. While pretending to write letters to mates from his cell, Tait was secretly crafting songs telling of the violence, the angst and the hardships he faced throughout his mis-spent youth. These tales of drugs, crime and debauchery would ultimately become the forthcoming urbnri album "Young Team".
Upon his release from prison, Tait invited his Irish cousins - respected musicians on the Irish music scene - to form what would become urbnri following a series of musicians unable to capture the raw, pained honesty and angst-filled passion of the songs. The move paid off and urbnri were born.
There aren’t many bands that can sell out a 1000 capacity venue in only their second public outing but having built up a loyal following by playing underground gigs on an industrial estate near Glasgow, Urbnri played their first official headline gig on 7th December 2007 in The Garage in Glasgow and the ‘Sold out’ signs were up within a few days of tickets going on sale.
Their debut release followed in January 2008 with the single "Young Free and Simple". Released and financed by the band themselves, this reached number 34 in the UK singles chart and topped both the indie and Scottish singles chart.
The forthcoming album "Young Team" has been recorded in Glasgow's Mixing Rooms studios and is set to propel urbnri on to a greater stage in 2008..
